Review
Review is where work gets judged. A version lands as a draft, your studio looks at it, and when the moment is right you publish it, so the people holding a link can watch, comment, draw on the frame and approve. Sending, publishing and telling somebody are three separate steps, and nothing happens by itself. When the work is agreed, you finish the review and it moves out of the way.
Two letters is enough, and it reads every chapter.
Tracks, rounds and versions
A shot's work travels through review on a track: one ongoing conversation, either internal (your studio only) or with the client. Versions on a track are grouped in rounds: the versions that went out together.
When you add a version (from a shot, or with Add version on the review page), the popup asks:
- Who this version is for: The client or Internal. An internal round stays inside the studio; the client never sees it.
- Round: add it to the current round, or start a New round. Round name (optional) shows beside the number, as in Round 3 · Shading.
- Note (optional): what changed since the previous version.
It lands as a draft. Nothing reaches the client until you publish it.
Two numbers stay apart on purpose: the round is the moment, the version is the work. The version number is the shot's own (v005), so it never restarts when a new track does.
Put a version in the wrong round? The Move to round… icon on the version moves it. "Nothing is sent to the client by moving a version. Remarks and drawings stay with it."
If the project has a number of rounds agreed with the client, the review page shows where you stand ("Round 2 of 3 agreed"). Going past it is never blocked: extra rounds usually mean something needed fixing.
How do I show a version to the client?
On the version, press Publish this version (in the compact dock it reads Show). The confirmation says it plainly: anyone holding a link to this review can see it from that moment, and it does not send them anything.
Withdraw takes a version back offline, without a question first. Showing unfinished work is the risky direction; taking it back is not.
If the review is still internal, showing a version to the client moves the whole track over to the client side in the same press, and the popup says so.
How do I send the client a link?
Open The client's link, then People with a link. Everybody listed there has their own personal address. Press Email link on a row to send it to that person, or tick several and send them all at once. You can also copy a link and pass it on yourself.
Send update… mails the people who already have a link: pick who gets it under Who gets it, write What changed, and send. Nothing is ever mailed on its own, and fixing a typo never mails your client twice.
For the difference between a personal link and a general one, passphrases and how long a link works, see Sharing.
Can I schedule a release?
Yes. Schedule…, beside the publish switch, opens Schedule a release: tick the Videos that go out (several from the same job at once if you like), set Goes out on (in your own time zone; everybody sees the same moment in theirs), and choose who It goes to. Then press Schedule (the button names how many videos). Nothing is filled in for you, so a release only happens because somebody set it up for these videos, these people and this moment.
A scheduled release can be called off with one press until the moment it fires. If the versions were removed in the meantime, nothing goes out.
The dock: every version beside the player
A rail beside the player lists every version of this review, grouped by round, newest first, with the project's other reviews below it. Clients see the same dock on their page, showing only what was released to them.
Switching versions keeps your place on the page, so you can be halfway down the comments and still flip to v001. With more than one round, a chooser above the list lifts out one round at a time and says how many it hides.
How do I compare two versions?
Press Compare in the player's controls. A is the version on the page; choose B in the picker (Choose a video), or press a version in the dock. Any video in the same project can be B, including other reviews and shots. Compare works with videos only.
Three views:
- A or B: one version at a time.
- Wipe: both in the same frame, split by a line you drag (or move with the arrow keys).
A sets the timing and B follows. When the two have different frame shapes, choose Fit to A, Fit to B or Each its own. Press Compare again to stop.
A client can compare too, between versions released on their own link. If you pick a B the client cannot see while they are watching along, Kadrenta asks first: Share it and compare or Don't compare.
Keyboard shortcuts in the player
The keys are printed on the player's buttons: Space play and pause, I and O set in and out points, L loop, M sound on or off, F full screen. They do nothing while you are typing.
How do I finish a review?
When the work is agreed, press Finish, on the review's row on the Review page or on the review itself. The popup asks one question, How did it end?: Approved or Without approval (the likely answer is already picked), and lists what follows:
- the review moves to the Finished list on the Review page, and off the dashboard;
- its client links stop answering, with a short thank-you for the client;
- open remarks stay as they are, and their tasks run on;
- a planned release is called off;
- nobody is mailed; the team sees one line in their inbox.
A finished review is frozen: no new rounds, remarks, verdicts or links until you put it back. Its page shows Finished, approved or Finished, without approval. Put back reopens it with one press, and its links work again.
On the free plan a finished review no longer counts toward your three running reviews, so finishing is also how you make room. Archiving a project finishes its reviews too.
A finished review can also be cleared with Clear. It can be taken back for five days, and is then gone for good.
Who can finish a review: a lead on its project, or anyone who may share it with the client. For a review that belongs to no project, its maker or a studio admin.
Comments and drawing on a frame
Pin a comment to a moment in the video, and draw on the frame as part of the same remark. The moment is picked up the instant you start drawing or typing; once you have set or cleared it yourself, nothing overrules you.
Drawings are stored as positions on the frame, not as pictures, so they land in the same place on any screen size. A drawing shows while its frame is on screen; while the clip plays, or when the file cannot be shown, a card says so instead of stretching ink over the wrong picture.
